Writing to people shaped my life — it can shape yours too
Many years ago when I was a much younger man and the Internet didn't exist, I used to love browsing through a magazine that was available in the UK called "The Exchange and Mart" — if you are as old as me and from the UK you will no doubt remember this magazine.
The magazine had literally everything advertised in there, from cars for sale, to spare parts for cars; trucks; motorbikes; houses for sale; antique electrical equipment from the 2nd world war; literally everything you could possibly think of. I loved it.
But there was one section that I particularly loved — a whole section dedicated to "Pen-Pals": people advertising for other people anywhere in the world to simply write them a letter, to stay in touch and perhaps become friends across the world.
I loved this section as I managed to write to many people across the world, and it gave me many long-term friends.
It was through those friends that I eventually travelled all over Europe and eventually came to live here in Australia. So writing to people shaped my life.
It can shape yours too.
